50s Costumes
After the austerity of the war it was understandable that the styles of the 50s were going to be very different to the styles of the previous decades. Teddy Boys and Rockers were seen on the streets of many cities and towns and they were a symbol of the growing emergence of the teenager. The look can still be found in some places today, but to really get an idea of the style of the day you need to look to the fancy dress costumes available from the decade.
For true rebels, there can be the characters from Grease, and even the characters that they could have been based upon – Marlon Brando and James Dean. Brando can be copied as long as there is leather jacket and a cap, while jeans, a cigarette and a quiff will make all other guests think of James Dean...
